"A friendship like ours gives life a sense of continuity. Our relationship combines the past and future in a way that is natural, comfortable...reassuring. And while other friends, new friends, see the me that I've become, you know the me I've always been, just as I know the history you grew from, the stories that shaped you. In this world of change, it is a rare thing, a precious thing, to know and be known so well. A friendship like ours is something to cherish. And I want you to know, I do."

20 December 2012

Dearest Kyla,
I know exactly why you chose this card for you -- I chose this card for you when I saw it at the shop. So I guess without knowing it, we are attuned to each other -- I suppose that comes from having been friends for years and years.
You are the person I consider my 'first' best friend, and while you may not be my oldest friend, it sure feels that way and certainly you were my friend during the years it mattered the most to have that special one by my side -- yes, you guessed it, the angstsy teenage years of highschool!;)
We have not been unchanging through the years of knowing each other. And in fact I sometimes feel that the intervening college years -- which undoubtedly were a major factor in shaping us into who we've now become -- have changed the both of us so much I catch myself becoming surprised at certain things about you (like when I first found out you liked spicy food now -- ordering soicy noodle soup at Chowking while house-hunting in 2007.=)).
But spending time together again even after all those years apart still feels as natural as though we never were apart. Super special friendship, surely!
Who would have thought that fateful day we had to parade through the streets of Iligan in those ridiculous Filipiniana costumes would bring us to the here and now: friends for almost 15 years (wow!) and Finally going to be flatmates? Hahaha
I want you to know I accept you fully - yes, including the gremlin you, and that I always have. I am here through all you will go through, in the way that I always have been here - if not always quietly listening to your woes (when have I ever been quiet? Haha), at least here to hear you out despite my interjections and unsolicited advice.
I look forward to 2013 - having to be pescatarian with you at home is going to be legen-wait for it-dary!=D
Love you Ky!
<3, TJA
